In Art in the Noose, artist Milo Lazarevic posits that art is more important than the artist, and that in order for modern art to progress, we must challenge long-held beliefs and theories put forth by great intellectuals, including Socrates, Plato, Tolstoy, Hegel, Kant, Croce, Freud, and Nietzsche.
He tackles concepts such as the function of self in art, limitations of criticism, and spirituality and ethics in art. Throughout the book are 150 of Lazarevic's paintings, many of which have not been shared before, accompanied by the artist's descriptions.
About the Author
Milo Lazarevic is an American author, artist, and educator born in Kotor, Yugoslavia. His previous books are Brutalist Sculpture & Dystopia and Intuitive Reality.
Dr. Lazarevic received a doctorate in art education from Columbia University. He taught sculpture and art history at Columbia University Teachers College and Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute. His sculptures and paintings have been exhibited at galleries in the United States and Europe, with reviews in The New York Times, Art News, International Sculpture, Arts Magazine, SoHo News, Houston Chronicle, The Houston Post, Belgrade Evening News, and many other publications.
